Today's active lifestyles subject many
Atlanta cosmetic surgery patients' skin to sun and wind
overexposure, while others may be genetically predisposed to
early signs of aging. While many surgical procedures to
improve the aging face including facelift, browlift and
eyelid surgery may improve some lines and wrinkles,
superficial changes in the skin may persist. As people age
it is well-recognized that the balance between collagen and
elastin in the skin changes and in most patients the skin
becomes thinner. Combined with texture and pigment changes
associated with sun exposure, these problems may contribute
greatly to premature aging.
Many Atlanta patients are concerned with
crows feet and superficial face lines and wrinkles around
the eyes. Some are looking for improvements in the fine
lines around the mouth and others are looking to remove "age
spots," pigmentary changes in the skin. All of these
concerns are usually best addressed with a skin resurfacing
procedure, sometimes in combination with facial surgery such
as facelift, browlift, or
eyelid surgery.
Skin resurfacing is the controlled
removal of the outer layers of the skin and may be performed
through a variety of techniques. When the skin heals brand
new collagen and elastin is formed to replace the worn and
damage skin removed, restoring a more youthful appearance
and eliminating lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Depending on
the specific problems and condition of the skin, resurfacing
techniques may include chemical peeling, laser treatment,
nitrogen plasma resurfacing, or abrasion. In many cases a
combination of techniques is recommended. During your
consultation at Milton Hall Plastic Surgery, we will discuss
your specific goals and review photographs to better
understand the expected results. Skin resurfacing is
effective for both men and women and is an important part of
many facial rejuvenation regimens.
