Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

Patients will frequently tell us during their consultation "I don't feel like the older person I see in the mirror." One of the most common complaints is drooping or sagging of the face and neck. Atlanta facelift patients may have a variety of areas of concern including sagging neck contours, jowl formation, sagging cheeks, or the formation of lower facial lines and wrinkles. Patients interested in one or any combination of these improvements are candidates for a facelift.

Facelift (or rhytidectomy) has become an unnecessarily confusing term because many surgeons have named particular procedures such as mini lift, band-aid lift, and neck lift. When discussing facelift with patients in Atlanta we often start with a review of your photographs and before and after pictures of previous patients. This helps to establish what expected results may be and improves communication between you and your surgeon when designing the procedure individualized for you. You may see that Atlanta facelift patients often combine a face lift with other procedures such as brow lift for correction of upper facial contours or blepharoplasty for improvements in saggy upper lids or bags under the eyes. Chin implants, cheek implants, rhinoplasty (nasal surgery), otoplasty (ear surgery) and lip augmentation surgery can also be performed in conjunction with a facelift. It is important to recognize that volume augmentation often is a valuable adjunct to facial rejuvenation surgery and when appropriate fat transfer or injectable fillers may be recommended

Many Atlanta facelift patients are concerned with superficial skin wrinkles as well as their facial contours. Although some improvement in facial wrinkles can be obtained from a facelift, it will not address all the superficial lines that come from premature aging, overexposure to weather and dynamic muscle motion. In many cases, skin resurfacing using chemical peel, nitrogen plasma, or other techniques may be considered along with facelift. Facelifts address "saggy" skin; skin resurfacing addresses textural wrinkles and imperfections.
