Peel Party
A Peel Party guest receives a free chemical peel from Mahpara
Last Wednesday I hosted my first event as Skin Care Specialist of Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery. Wanting an intimate environment, we capped the original RSVP list at ten. Demand exceeded expectation and the turnout was great!
Guests were greeted with big smiles and a spread catered by Figs and Honey. I could write an entire blog about their mac & cheese. It will make you feel five again!
Melissa, our NeoCutis Skincare rep, began the evening with an open forum on her products. The “Mac Daddy” (aka Bio-Serum) was a crowd favorite! The brand’s two kits also captivated audience attention, as they are a great means to test multiple products.
Melissa segued into my services, where I revealed the benefits of chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatment. Group Q&A reiterated why I love these services, as they are relevant to all genders, ages, and skin types. An announcement that two lucky participants would become demo patients and receive free chemical peels created almost tangible excitement in the room! We split the group in two, allowing one to watch my peel demonstration while the other received skin assessments by Melissa under her skin scanner. “Oohs”, “Aahs”, and laughter filled our Suite.
We ensured everyone’s purses were filled before leaving too. Gifts of a free chemical peel, microdermabrasion session, and NeoCutis basket left with three attendees. Overall, this event was our best yet, and I have the twelve beautiful ladies that attended to thank for that. I met several new patients, and was able to reconnect with some old. Getting #Botox for the first time today. Wish me luck!
By 9:42AM, I was a Botox veteran.
My publicity earned mixed reviews from friends and family. Although I rebutted arguments against “putting poison in my face”, they were not alone in having hesitations. Having seen hundreds of Botox patients, I was more curious than concerned about the level of pain. My reluctance stemmed more from perception than anything else.
Would others judge me? Would I look fake and without expression? Ultimately, would it tarnish an image of pragmatism?
Receiving Botox is, by a landslide, the easiest doctor’s appointment I’ve had. Treatment was short, effective, and virtually painless. Dr. Beaty began by asking me which areas of my upper face were bothersome. For me it was just the region between my eyebrows, called the glabella. Mahpara prepped this area with lidocaine cream and let it settle for a few minutes. Dr. Beaty then returned and walked me through the entire injection process. Had he not stated, “I’m injecting now,” I would’ve continued to wait. After treatment, I was given reusable gel packs to apply slight pressure and prevent swelling.
The effects really became apparent two days later. When the sun glared, I no longer glared back with the Great Divide traversing my forehead. I still have control over my facial expressions too. If anything, now they are delivered with more confidence.
I’m uncertain why I let my mind exaggerate the negative stigma of Botox. It’s natural to maintain every other component of life, from your car to your relationships. Why not maintain your appearance as well? I am now certified Protox – pro Botox administered by a professional.

Before I started working at Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery, I thought Botox was the answer to get rid of any wrinkles on your face. I quickly learned that this is not the case; Botox generally treats the upper face while fillers treat the lower areas. We recently held a successful Lunch and Learn on Thursday, February 28th to discuss the many different ways of using injectables to aesthetically improve wrinkles of the face. Injectables can be divided into two primary categories, neuromodulators and fillers. Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators. Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra are fillers.
Dr. Beaty, who is one of the 7% out of 1.2 million doctors in the U.S. qualified to be an expert injector (Expert Injector Link), talked extensively about the three aspects he looks at in regards to the aging face. These include the position of tissue, volume of the face, and the skin surface. He explained that there are many benefits to using injections in combination. For example, Dr. Beaty often uses Botox to manipulate positions of muscle and to control wrinkling, while using fillers to help with volume regeneration. Although his focus was specifically on injectables, he also mentioned that patients should constantly maintain their skin with a physician grade skin care line such as PCA, NeoCutis, or Elta MD.
Lunch and Learns are a great way to become more educated on the services we provide in a relaxed, intimate environment. This time around, our patients indulged in food from a delicious French bakery called Douceur De France, learned about different facial injections and fillers, and received a special promotion for accompanying us.
